What inspired you to start your own business & what made you decide to venture out?
While working as a Safety and HR Director time I missed my daughter’s first steps. On my flight home, I realized just how much of my kids’ lives I was missing.  It was a wake-up call that all this time I’d been working to make a living, but I wasn’t truly living. I quit my job that same day and turned my hobby into a successful career.

Sugarcoat not only values cleanliness and is committed to elevating the industry’s standard level of cleanliness and sterilization to provide our clients with an unparalleled experience but its super posh environment is the perfect venue for you to have your nails done with your bridal entourage for you big day. Make your reservation for your bridal mani pedi for you & your bridal party!

Tell us about your business services and what makes it unique? We don’t book any clients unless I’ve met with them first. Sometimes due to their locations, we meet virtually but I still conduct a formal consultation with all potential clients. While brides may have a separate coordinator assigned to their individual wedding, I maintain weekly contact with all consultants and based on information that they provide to me, I have monthly recap and production calls with all clients.

When & what was your first event ever?
I planned my sister’s wedding in 1995.  It was filled with tulle, candelabras, and the old reliable white metal arch.

The night before an event, what is that like for you? Aside from the reoccurring nightmare that the wedding cake explodes as the couple gets ready to cut it? Believe it or not… It’s Family Night. Wedding Eve is all about checking and rechecking everything from the packing list, to the phone numbers for everyone involved in the wedding. My family and I get together and give everything a once over.  Counting chargers is actually how my youngest learned to count by 10’s lolol

How do you handle stress and pressure?
Stress and pressure are both a part of my job so perhaps I’m immune to it? Pressure is always at Level 10 on the day of the wedding, but my adrenaline is pumping so high that I never even notice until it’s over. After the wedding, I like to spoil myself by spending a couple of nights in a hotel, visiting the spa, and binging on room service.

What does it take to be a successful event planner?
The patience of Job, a heart of gold, and the confidence of a lion.  You’ve really got to love making people happy, be confident of your skills, and always be willing to learn. Trends are constantly changing, and you’ve got to stay ahead of the curb. “Always walk through life as you have something new to learn and you will.”

What are the benefits from your programs and services? What makes our services amazing is that we understand how important your wedding day is, but we also understand how busy you are that you actually have other things to focus on. Whether you’re working full time, still in college, or taking care of little ones… You’ve got stuff to do.

Our team of professionals will handle the logistics in planning your big day and we take on the role of liaison with all of your contracted vendors. We allow you to focus on your everyday life during the planning process and on the actual day of you get to sit back, relax, and be a guest at your own wedding.

What are your popular services? Our most popular service is the “Jade Experience”. From the moment they are engaged until they are on their honeymoon, our team will provide full service wedding coordination and consultation. We begin by finding a wonderful location for the ceremony/reception, compiling a detailed budget, and creating a master to do list. Our team is involved with securing all vendors for the wedding as well as helping with design and decor. We are the bride and grooms’ vendor liaison throughout the entire engagement. We are literally by their sides from Yes to the Honeymoon

How many photographers do you work with per event and why? I always bring my personal photographer to capture all the “Detail Shots” because they know my style and can have images edited on my schedule. However, a bride definitely needs two shooters because one person can’t be in two places at the same time. It also allows her to have different perspectives of each moment that’s captured. With that being said, I need between 2-3 because sometimes my personal photographer is also the wedding photographer 😊

What differentiates you from other wedding planners? The fact that I’m hands on with all of my events. I meet with each and every bride at least once per month to discuss their planning process, current status, and any pending action items that need to be addressed.

What are the expansion plans for your business in 2019?
This Spring we will launch our Convo & Cappuccino Sessions. This gives couples that may not be ready to hire a planner the opportunity to sit down face to face and ask any questions they may have. We’ll spend the day chatting all things wedding from vendor contracts to staging the honeymoon suite for the night.

Give us a glimpse of what you were doing before you started with J. Ladson Weddings? I was working with a major company in the school district as a Human Resource/Safety Director. My main area of responsibility was to serve as a resource to management and employees in solving day-to-day workplace matters. This included conducting workplace investigations and recommending effective solutions and corrective actions in accordance with policy and applicable laws.

What are the three things that we should know about you?

1.       Growing up I spent all my summers at the beach {it’s my favorite place in the world} but I can’t swim.

2.       I absolutely love The Grinch.

3.       I’m a military brat but I was born in Atlanta Georgia

What's been the most gratifying about your business venture? Being able to be a part of such a momentous day in two people’s lives. It’s not just one day for us. We’re often involved in their special occasions for the rest of their lives together. We get to coordinate baby showers, 1st birthday celebrations, anniversary and graduation parties.

Favorite spots in Atlanta to expand your network? Pretty much EVERYWHERE. I love meeting new people and learning about their daily lives. I once met a gentleman during a corporate meeting my company was hosting, and I asked him why he was so stressed. He quickly told me that he had recently gotten engaged, had a new baby at home, and his wife had not been feeling well. He said he just wished he had someone to alleviate some of the stress on her. I told him that I wasn’t up for changing diapers, but I’d love to assist her with the wedding coordination. We met the next day for frozen yogurt and started the planning process for a beautiful Black Friday Wedding {Yup, they got married the day after Thanksgiving}.

As a business owner, what has been the best advice you received and why? People may not remember exactly what you did, or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel. I treat each of my clients EXACTLY how I would want to be treated if I were them.

Advise you want to share with your brides for a memorable wedding day? It’s your day and YOU and your GROOM call the shots. If you want to bump something back on the timeline or move it up a little… Go for it!!! Relax, have fun, and let your planner handle it.
