ON BUSINESS
Who are your biggest influencers and mentors personally & professionally and explain why? My parents without question. My folks are some of the hardest workers I know and by far the most giving of time and resources. Growing up in the agriculture business, resources would come and go but my folks always provided for their three boys, me being the youngest. We always had that new baseball bat, camping trip with friends and even a private school education – how they did it is truly amazing. So many times in my young life, I’d want to quit if I wasn’t initially successful. Despite hardships and setbacks, we still have priorities in life and it is essential we stay firm on our commitments. I owe it all to Steve and Linda and my older brothers would say the same.
What exciting project are you working on? I am six weeks into my new job at SCAD so without a doubt that is my most exciting project currently. SCAD is a global institution fueled by creativity and I am really blessed to have a position that is tied to helping others succeed. I rarely have “what if’s” but I always wished I went to design school so in a way this is my chance!
What's been your most successful approach in building business relationships? During my first political campaign early, early in my career, the campaign manager shared a quote with me and it is one that I continue to live by today both professionally and personally. “The toes you step on today might be connected to the same a$$ you kiss tomorrow.” Be respectful, honest and more importantly, be yourself. Oh yea, never underestimate the power of a handwritten thank you note. Keeping it old school is a rarity these days!

What type of digital magazine or periodicals do you enjoy? Food, Business and Sports in no particular order. Florida State is really struggling this year so perhaps sports are riding the pine right now. Of those, I really like Atlanta Business Chronicle to keep my ATL knowledge up to speed!

Apple or Samsung explain why? Apple without question. I remember collecting green receipts as a kid from Publix back in Florida and if you accumulated enough, you could redeem an Apple Macintosh – the rectangle ones. #BrandLoyalty
What do you do for fun? I truly love to travel and be a world citizen. Twain said it best in that “travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness” and quite frankly, we need a lot of that in the world today.
What legacy do you want to leave behind? I’d like to think people will smile and maybe give that quintessential head nod and laugh when folks hear my name. Legacies do not have to be grand in nature but if I can be remembered as “one of the good guys,” I’d be eternally thankful.
